  1. I, also, am absolutely amazed at your fantastic creation – it looks so real. You should be very, very proud of it, as it’s stunning!

  2. I remember in grade school coating strips of newspaper with a flour and water mixture and applying them to an inflated balloon to create a rather unimpressive human head. I am blown away by what you have achieved with this same medium, what an incredible work of art you created!

  3. What a fantastic idea to use your grandfather’s cut-out profile to help define the shape of his face, rather than building the shapes of the nose, etc. as you go. Makes for a much more realistic rendering of his head.
    Great job on all levels.

  4. This is so wonderful on so many levels. I couldn’t believe it was papier mache. What skill you have shown and love for your grandfather for only a heart full of love could have made such a beautiful portrait of a loved one. Thank you for sharing and inspiring all of us by showing what our medium is capable of. In skilled hands, of course. Haha. I hope that I can do as well one day.

  5. This figure really looks alive. May I ask what paint you used and did you have a recipe for the skin tones, or was it trial and error? The ‘skin’ looks translucent and really life-like. Thanks for showing this, it’s really inspirational.

    • Thanks, it was just oil paints, mixing my own colours. I applied them and blended them straight onto the sculpt. And speckled the paint on around the nose , cheeks and ears with a worn out brush to give the effect of blood vessels at the surface.

  6. I’ve never seen anything like it and in paper mache no less! You’re no less than a great artist. I am in awe of your skill. I only wish I had the time to attempt such a feat.
