Made by Heather Endicott
The Lion King JR. Elephant headpiece. I made this for our middle school production of the Lion King JR.
Full disclosure…I’m not naturally an artist (sewing yes…sculpting and painting, not so much). This was my first attempt.
I’m a volunteer who loves making costumes for our school’s musical productions! Purely a hobby:)
HOW IT’S BUILT
- BASE: cardstock paper and packing tape
- 1ST LAYERS (PAPER MACHE): Mod Podge and newspaper strips (2-3 layers)
- 2ND LAYER (CLAY/SCULPT): Moldable Cosplay Foam Clay
- 3rd LAYER (PROTECTIVE): Worbla Cosplay Supplies Flexbond Primer
- 4th LAYER (FINAL- lighter option) #1: paint (acrylic) and seal it (Mod Podge)
- OR
- 4th LAYER (FINAL- heavier option) #2: cover with fabric (faux lightweight leather was used in photo). If you choose this option you can skip CLAY/SCULPT LAYER except on the tusks.

Heather, the use of the faux leather was a great idea! Thanks for sharing photos of your elephant mask. 🙂
