At the moment, I am not using papier-mâché for my sculpting adventures. I am living in the SW US which has a long pottery tradition, many ‘wild clays’ and natural inorganic pigments. So I learned to make pots like the Anasazi and branched out from there to my ‘mud ponies’. Everything is fired in trench, pit or bon fire … no kiln or modern tools involved. I’ll probably come back to papier mache eventually, but right now I am enjoying the added fun of hunting wild clay and pigments in the Arizona Mountains and deserts

That looks like fun, Margarethe! I love the idea of firing them in a trench, without an expensive kiln. Do you know of any books or websites where we could see how that’s done! (Love your mud ponies!)
