As a long time follower and reader of Jonni’s work I always know where to come when I get the opportunity for fancy dress! I am attending a party with a ‘creature’ theme and while I have a lovely jaguar print dress I was in need of a mask to match.
I love the jaguar pattern but wanted something a little softer and cuddly looking for the clientele of the event. I still wanted to imbue the mask with a ‘fearsome’ look so added some extra pieces of tape over the brow alongside some 3d eyebrows (little taped over paper balls) I love how it came out looking a bit pouty!
Unfortunately for this project I had to use materials that were already available to me, so the mask is entirely coated with matte brown packing tape rather than paper mache. The patterning is done in sharpie and any colour was added with chalk and makeup! I also had to use hair spray as a sealant (important to build layers if you work with chalk!) but if you are to use sharpie I would recommend spraying a light ‘dusting’ coat from 12-15 inches away- As if the surface gets wet the ink will leak all over your lovely project and look a bit messy.

It’s beautiful, Charlie. And your choice of materials to make it with was really creative – and it all worked. I am totally impressed! 🙂
