I had a bit of burn out after a bunch of art shows in a row and I had been eyeing your gnome pattern for a while. I’m a huge Rein Poortvliet fan, so to decompress I decided to make a gnome. I had a lot of fun with the pattern, I followed your steps through the plaster strips stage, then switched to paper mache cement. It worked wonderfully. I didn’t need any epoxy clay, I found the paper mache cement very easy to sculpt, I also loved that it sanded well after it dried. Great recipe and pattern, thanks a bunch!

Great job!
Cassandra, your gnome is wonderful. I’m very glad that the paper cement clay worked so well for this project. And you have some amazing work on your website, too! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thank you so much! Quick question: I’m making the outdoor hollow jack-o’-latern now and used paper mache cement on the exterior of it, should I use grout on the interior?
I think it would be easier to use the paper cement clay, since you already used it on the outside. Is there an armature made of paper on the inside?
I used plaster strips, over plastic bags and tape- I removed the tape and bags so it’s hollow and have paper mache cement on the exterior over the plaster already.
