Panda Mask Pattern
for Paper Mache
$12
Who doesn’t love pandas?
It’s easy to make this mask with the downloadable pattern – and what could be more fun than painting this adorable black and white bear?
No sculpting experience is required – the pattern creates all the shapes for you.
And when your panda mask is done, you can proudly say, “I made it myself!”
How to Make Your Panda Mask:
Print the pattern and put it on cereal box cardboard. Then cut out all the pieces.
Tape the pieces together, following the video below and the instructions included with the downloadable pattern.
Use newspaper or the brown paper that comes in amazon boxes for the layer of paper mache.
Use black and white acrylic paint to give your panda his easily recognizable spots.
Finished size –
About 8 inches (20.32 cm) high, 9.75 inches (24.765 cm) wide and 11 inches (27.94 cm) deep. It will fit an adult head, but the size can be changed by following the instructions on page 13 of the downloadable pattern.
My downloadable PDF Patterns come with full instructions.
There’s no waiting for your pattern to arrive, and no shipping costs, so you can start on your project right away.
Note: If you’ll be saving your pattern to and iPhone or iPad, those devices like to hide your downloaded files. You can scroll down this page to see how to find them.
And remember – if you have any problems downloading your files or putting your pattern together, just let me know. I’m always happy to help. 🙂
Watch the video below to see how to make your panda mask, from start to finish:
To make your Panda Mask you will need:
- The Pattern
- Access to a Printer
- Copy paper or full-sheet labels (I always use the labels)
- Glue stick if using copy paper instead of the labels
- Cardboard from 3 standard-sized cereal boxes or 6 letter-sized sheets of light chipboard.*
- Sharp scissors for cutting cereal box cardboard.
- Clear plastic tape and masking tape Note: Don’t use disappearing gift wrap tape – it isn’t strong enough
- Glue gun (optional)
- Paper strips and paste (Find recipes here)
- Acrylic paint and varnish (I also used some modeling paste for the fur texture, but only because I found some in my studio. It isn’t needed.)
- Shoelaces or elastic straps to hold the mask in place
When you finish your panda mask…
We would love to see how it turns out, so please come back to the Daily Sculptors page and upload some photos. 🙂

I get a ton of spam and I don’t want your email to get lost, so please put “paper mache” in the subject line so your email won’t be accidentally deleted. If you don’t hear back from me within 24 hours, assume the cyberspace gremlins ate your email, and try again.

Hi Jonni
That’s a great pattern! Before purchasing it for our carneval group in Switzerland, I was wondering about two things:
1. Kids’ size: I assume this is for adults only, but if I would adjust the size(%) in the printer settings, this might be usable as well for kids? Do you or your customers have any experience on this?
2. How can paper mache be waterproofed? We want to use it during Swiss Carneval, and the risk of rain or snow is 80%. So I was wondering if a Acrylic paint is sufficient, or if you would recommend anything else.
Thank you very much for your feedback and support.
This is highly appreciated.
Greetings from Switzerland
Hi May. Yes, a lot of people have made the patterns in different sizes. As long as you use the same printer setting for all the pattern pages, the pieces will fit together. The Panda mask fits my head, which is 22″ around, measured right above the ears. You can get the right percentage to print it after measuring the child’s head. I have a video showing how to change the size of the patterns here.
Making paper waterproof isn’t easy, but it does help if you use a waterproof clear spray varnish over the acrylic paint. The clerk at your local DIY store should be able to help you find a good product. If the masks will be worn for more than one day, be sure to bring them inside to a nice warm place and let them dry out again. Have fun! 🙂
Pandastic project!!!
Thanks. 🙂
