For Halloween, 2020, my company was having a virtual Halloween costume contest. I obtained the jackrabbit pattern here and enlarged it quite a bit to make a complete over-the-head head mask. My company doesn’t have the sense of humor that I do, and I think most folks yawned, but I had a good time both creating the mask and showing it off online.
I didn’t make all the optional smooth facial features; I didn’t mind it looking a bit blocky. For the neck cover I simply bought a thrift store t-shirt close to the color and glued it inside the bottom edge of the mask. I ran out of time, or I would have made the fit a bit better.
I didn’t quite work out the headset-fit, I tried using Worbla and elastic and didn’t get it quite right. I would go back and change that to make the inside fit to a hardhat harness, but I didn’t think of it at the time. I used real antlers on it, so it is a bit heavy and due to not having the correct headset doesn’t wear comfortably. If I do get another occasion to wear it, updates will be made.
The jackalope has become sort of a spirit animal for me! Several work colleagues have given me mini jackalopes from a Christmas ornament to a sliver necklace with that charm!
