Snoopy

Made by Monica Berry

This is my first time trying paper mache. I watched Jonni make a pattern of a kangaroo on YouTube. I thought it looked interesting and fun to make. I thought I’d try to make a Snoopy. It was fun but I only used newspaper. So it isn’t smooth. I am going to try to make her clay next.

  1. Snoopy is really cute! I have found that if you use paper to fill in your armature, pull the masking tape tight and use the paper like you would with real clay. You can achieve a smooth surface and it can be very smooth. Then add your paper strips. I have done many sculptures this way and they look smooth without using PM clay. Of course pm clay is wonderful and I use it too. Good lick on your next project.

  2. I love your Snoopy! Yes paper clay can make your projects much smoother and in some cases that is great. I sometimes think that we get away from what ‘real’ paper mache is which is strips of paper and flour and water paste. There is nothing wrong with that which is the reason we like this medium. I love using both for different effects so go have fun and experiment, thanks for sharing!

  3. Who doesn’t love Snoopy. A bright spot in this cloudy and snowy day. You will like the clay, but I love him.

  4. Not smooth or not, you knew exactly who it was! You will like Jonni’s clay though and I encourage you to try it out. Also another hint, if you make your armature as smooth as possible, your sculpture will be smooth as well. Nice job on Snoopy…he would impress Charles Schultz!
