Made by Kathleen Byrne
First time using paper mache clay. Used the grizzly bear pattern but left off the ears to accommodate the hat. I applied a layer of regular paper mache first because I was worried abt the pattern alone being too flimsy. Completely unnecessary step. Jonni’s instructions for making the clay were great but even so I was concerned about the texture. Used the aluminum foil sculpting method from the bear mask video and am happy with the result. Because of the time crunch I had to paint it quickly and before it was 100 percent dry. It worked for the short term but I don’t think it will last for the long term bc of the moisture trapped under the paint. Need to find the next project to improve my skills!
Great costume, Kathleen! And you may not need to worry about the moisture, because it can evaporate through the cardboard if you didn’t paint the inside. If it still feels damp now, you could prop it up in front of a fan with the back facing the breeze, and it will probably be fine.
