Hello creatives! I am a Canadian fibre artist. I love working with paper and paper clay. I have just finished this Sea turtle sculpture after returning from a trip to Mexico.
I was inspired by taking part in releasing baby turtles back into the ocean. I took some creative liberties on the colouring. I used a cardboard understructure, followed by a layer of kraft paper mache, then coated in a little variation of the Silky smooth clay recipe. Instead of flour I add BOHS foam clay.
I love to experiment and have many many versions of air dry clay over the years. I love adding the foam clay to both add elasticity and more smoothness. All still water soluble and sandable. I find it is a little “self healing” so to compensate I exaggerate the sculpted details by approx 10%. Experiment and have fun!
