Made by Richard Thomas
I work in a library and made this as a display piece for a recent fantasy event.
The blade is corrugated cardboard covered in three layers of newspaper and paste while the final layer is aluminium adhesive tape dirtied down with black acrylic paint, the handle is a thick cardboard tube with tin foil ribbing while the pommel and the cross-guard are made of heavy card and covered in jonni’s paperclay to add form and texture and stippled and drybrushed to mimic ageing with basic acrylic paints.

Excellent work and very inspiring
Thanks Sharon, that’s very kind of you
That is very impressive! I would never have guessed it was made of paper mache!
Thank you Rhonda, in fairness there are only certain elements that are paper mache but that said probably 90% of it is paper, card and glue of some sort.
Thank you
Bravo!!!
Thank you ?
Sorry, this was meant to just say thank you, I don’t know where the question mark came from
Excellent use of materials, Richard – it looks so realistic, I can see why you’d want to keep it locked up behind glass. Great achievement – thanks for showing it to us. 🙂
No problem and thanks for the comments
