Reproduction 1920’s Pumpkins in Paper Mache

Made by Lee Middleswart

Wanted to make pumpkins with a vintage vibe. Found photos of candy containers that originated in Germany. They have wires for handles the children used to hold on to their pumpkins. I purchased plastic pumpkins and cut them in half with a utility knife. Used small pieces of orange Halloween napkins and wallpaper paste to adhere the paper to the pumpkins. More than one layer is necessary. When dry I cut out the eyes and mouth & glued the 2 pieces together and added wire handles. I added extra paper around the eyes and mouth and side areas to flatten seams. Painted the teeth white. Added eyes by cutting pieces of old white cardboard, painting eyeballs and glueing them inside the pumpkin. Think thats all.
