How to Use the Ogre Mask Pattern:

Print the pattern pieces, attach them to cardboard, and cut them out.

Tape the pieces together, following the instructions that are included with the pattern.

Add paper strips and paste, or a layer of paper mache clay – check the ‘recipes’ tab above.

Finished size – About 10 inches (25.4 cm) high, 6 inches (15.24 cm) wide and 9 inches (22.86 cm) deep. It will fit an “average” adult head, but you can print it larger or smaller if you need a different size.

How to make your Ogre mask with the pattern, and how I painted mine:

To make this paper mache Ogre mask you will need:

  • The front and back of three standard cereal boxes, or five letter-sized pieces of light chipboard.
  • Access to a printer
  • Scissors for the cereal box cardboard
  • Copy paper or full sheet labels.
  • Glue stick if you print your pattern on copy paper.
  • Clear plastic tape and masking tape.
  • Glue gun (optional)
  • Small amount of aluminum foil
  • Paper Mache (use paper strips and paste, or paper mache clay. Recipes can be found by clicking the Recipes tab at the top of the site.
  • Acrylic Paint and acrylic varnish

    • Hi Brenda. I have sculpted both a chimp and a gorilla, but I was experimenting with both of them and didn’t make tutorials. I also didn’t make a pattern, although I have considered making a gorilla mask pattern someday. Have you made one?

  1. Fun mask Jonni. And actually the movie Shrek has been made into a musical so ogre masks just might be the ticket in the future!

    • It’s interesting how many kid’s movies are being turned into musicals – it’s a great way to get students excited about the theater. (And I forgot Shrek was an ogre – 🙂 )
