Goosey Lucy

Made by Betsy Smith

I have always admired the big beautiful carvings of ducks and swans from my area and those of Tidewater Maryland. Needless to say, I don’t carve and they are prohibitively expensive and are quickly bought up by collectors. And, just like that, I decided to make my own and this is the result. She is a 3/4 size bird, loosely inspired by the beautiful Tundra swan. Easy to do. I used chicken wire for an armature and Jonni’s great recipe for the rest. (she won a blue ribbon at the Maryland State Fair!)

The best mantel decoration! Happy Holidays!

Foxy is another attempt and also resides on a mantel most days. I have yet to figure out a stand for him, so books work at the moment.
