Giraffe for Mum in law’s garden

Made by Helen VanDeNadort

This is my giraffe head I made using Jonni’s pattern, as you can see the painting is not quite finished yet. It is still a work in process as I am building his body now, and when I attach the head I will finish the rest of the pattern 🙂 It will be going into my mother in laws garden, she doesn’t know it yet. Haha.

The pattern was easy to follow, however I did get myself confused at one stage as I couldn’t get the folds to meet. I was able to get it done and I am very happy with the result. Watch this space for progress pics!

  1. Lovely work, Helen! I’m experimenting with RUST-OLEUM Triple Thick Glaze on a small trial piece. I submerged it in water for 30 minutes and the seal held. Now it’s outside to see what happens. If all goes well, I’ll try making a large ladybug to hang on my fence.

    • Hi Anne 🙂
Do let me know how it goes !! Did you use the spray or brush on , and how many coats did you give it ?

  2. Hi Jonni

Thank you 🙂 I will be spraying a water sealer on it and Mod Podge. I will be testing it on another small item I make which I will leave out in the rain etc for awhile to see if it works.

  3. Wow. I can’t wait to see it. That is quite an ambitious project. I love the head. The last photo of its head mostly white is quite interesting. You could make another creature out of it! Thanks.

  4. Helen, your giraffe looks great already – and I can’t wait to see it when it’s all done. Will it be living outside in your mother-in-law’s garden? If it is, how do you intend to make it weatherproof?
