Eagle Mask Pattern

For Paper Mache

This eagle mask is easy to make, with just three cereal boxes and a layer of paper mache.

No sculpting experience is required – the  downloadable pattern creates all the shapes for you. You decide how to paint it, and whether or not it needs feathers or other creative touches. When it’s done, your finished eagle mask will be a one-of-a-kind work of art.

How to use the Eagle Mask Pattern:

Print the downloadable pattern PDF and glue it to cereal box cardboard.

Cut out the pieces and tape them together, following the instructions that are included in the PDF, and the videos below.

Add paper mache. If you want, you can also add feathers and other details with crumpled foil or cardboard.

Then bring your eagle mask to life with acrylic paint.

Finished Size:

About 13.5 inches (34.29 cm) deep, 8 inches (20.32 cm) wide and 6.5 inches (16.51 cm) high. It will fit an adult head, but the size can be changed by printing the pattern larger or smaller, or by following the instructions that come with the pattern, on page 14.

Watch these videos to see how to use your eagle mask pattern:

This first video shows you how to tape the pattern pieces together. The only tricky part is right at the beginning – after the first two pieces go together, the rest of it is really easy.

In this next video, you can see how to add one layer of paper strips and paste. I used newspaper strips this time, but you can use any soft paper you have on hand. You can find lots of paste recipes under the ‘recipes’ tab at the top of the site.

I added some very simple feathers to my bald eagle mask, and I added some abstract designs to the ‘bronze’ helmet mask. You can add any details you like, but you really don’t have to add any. 🙂

In this video, you can see how I painted my bald eagle mask really fast.

And this last video shows how I painted my crazy ‘Aztec/Roman/crested eagle’ helmet mask, using bronze paint and patina from the Sculpt Nouveau company. I had a lot of fun making it, even though most people will probably think it’s a bit weird. 🙂

To make your Eagle Mask, you’ll need:

• The Pattern
• Access to a Printer
• Copy paper or full-sheet labels (I always use the labels)
• Glue stick if using copy paper instead of the labels
• Cardboard from 3 standard-sized cereal boxes or 6 letter-sized sheets of light chipboard.* If you want to make some feathers or other details, you might need a little more cardboard and a small amount of foil.
• Sharp scissors and a box cutter.
• Clear plastic tape and masking tape Note: Don’t use disappearing gift wrap tape – it isn’t strong enough.
• Paper strips and paste. You can find recipes by clicking on the “recipes” tab at the top of the site.
• Acrylic paint

* If purchasing cardboard in place of the cereal boxes, it will be sold as “light chipboard.” Medium or heavy chipboard is too stiff to bend well.
