  1. Did you put wire in the sculpture?

What I have done in the past is cut off some clay where the break is. I don’t think you want to fill in the crack, but make jagged cuts, say quarter of an inch or so, and then add clay to that. When I began using the wire in my sculptures, that helped a lot. Good luck.

    • By the way, don’t put thick clay in the leg. Fill it first with tightly squeezed aluminum foil, leaving room for the skin.

  2. Hi Karen. Is the damage just the layer of paper mache and paper mache clay, or did the underlying structure break? What is on the inside of the leg – is it cardboard? If it’s just the paper mache, you can add a few more strips of paper and paste to cover the crack, and then apply your paper mache clay. If it’s the actual armature that’s damaged, you may need to take the paper mache and any padding off that part of the leg, repair the structure, and then finish it again.
