Cat’s Face Sculpture With Paper Mache Clay Update

Hello everyone!

I just finished the Cat’s face sculpture and wanted to share with you how I painted!

It took me some days to figure it out how I would paint it but it was easier than I thought!
First I cover it with acrylic gesso mixed with water to protect the piece and to avoid it to absorb too much paint (brand Liquitex).

Then I made a paint wash (water + acrylic paints) with the following colors: Sap Green Hue (brand Golden)+ Burnt Umber Light (brand Golden) + Raw Siena (brand Pebeo). I wanted to give it an antique look.

I started painting it with a flat paint brush (and sometimes I also used a rag to paint it 🙂 and with the rag I removed the paint wash excess from the sculpture to let it stained and not uniformly painted.

When it was dried I covered it with just one coat of gloss finish because I didn’t want it to be shiny, I just wanted to protect the sculpture. To do so I used the spray finish spray from Watco’s brand: Crystal Clear Lacquer.
