Hello everyone!
My name is Eloisa and I’m starting working with paper mache sculptures! This cat’s face is my first sculpture so it’s not exactly the way that I wanted, but anyway I liked it! 🙂
I made it because I’m surrounded by cats! I have 2 black ones (Sheeba and Choquito) and the other 6 live in my backyard! So all of them inspired me to make this sculpture!
To make it I used a lot of aluminum paper as structure and the “Best Paper Mache Clay Recipe” that I really love. My joint compound was stocked in the garage for about 5 years or so (still sealed -never opened) so my paper mache clay was a little bit drier than it was expected, but it worked very good! 😉
Not sure if It’s normal to use a lot of aluminum paper but I wanted to give it more shapes!
After adding the paper mache clay It looks like a marble sculpture (as a Greek style! 🙂 ) and I love it. But still I will paint it! I’m just waiting to dry very well to be sure that it will not get moldy.
Also I thought that it would be so much heavier than paper mache but I’m very pleased with it’s weight! I really appreciate the recipe and Jonni tips! I will keep producing more sculptures and masks! as soon as I finish the painting I will post again! Thank you so much Jonni!
Your cat looks great, Eloisa. I like using aluminum foil, too. Thanks for showing us how it looked before the paper mache clay was applied – it’s really helpful when we get to see how a sculpture is made. 🙂 Did you use hot glue to keep the aluminum in place before you added the paper mache clay?

Yes, I used hot glue to keep it in place. I tried to use newspaper first, but because newspaper is not as flexible and easy to work as aluminum foil, I gave up on the newspaper!
