This easy-to-follow camel headdress pattern gives you all the shapes you need to build a realistic mask.
Just cut, tape, and add paper-mache, and then add your own creative touch.
Whether you’re making a Mardi Gras or Halloween costume, a nativity character, a theater prop, or just something wonderfully quirky, this pattern keeps it simple and fun.
And the best part? You can paint and decorate it any way you like—and then tell everyone who admires it that you made it yourself!
How to Use the Camel Mask Pattern:
Print the downloadable camel mask pattern, stick it to cereal box cardboard and cut out the pieces.
Tape the pieces together, and add optional details with crumpled foil and masking tape.
Add paper mache. You can use newspaper, or the brown paper that comes stuffed in amazon.com boxes, like I did.
Paint your camel with acrylic paint, using your favorite camel photo for a model. You can also add a bit of yarn for a mane, if you want to.
Finished size:
About 12 inches (30.48 cm) deep , 9.5 inches (24.13 cm) wide and 18 inches (45.72 cm) high. It will fit an adult head, but the size can be changed by following the instructions included with the pattern PDF.

How to tape the camel mask pieces together:
This camel headdress mask pattern has a lot of pieces, so it needs some patience to cut them out and put them together. But they go together easily, without any really tricky pieces. You can add some some optional sculpting around the nostrils and lips, like I did, or just cover the camel mask with paper mache, and paint it when the paper mache is dry.
Finishing your camel mask with paper mache and paint:
If you use the brown paper that comes stuffed in amazon.com boxes, you can use the paper as the main color of your mask and just paint the eyes, like I did. Or do a search on YouTube for “painting a camel” if you’d like your camel to be more realistic. I added a bit of fur on the back of his head with pieces of yarn, but many camels don’t have much long fur, so only do it if you like the way it looks.
To make your camel headdress mask you will need:
- The Pattern
- Access to a Printer
- Copy paper or full-sheet labels (I always use the labels, because it’s an easy way to stick the pattern to the cardboard)
- Glue stick if using copy paper instead of the labels
- Cardboard from 6 standard-sized cereal boxes or 12 letter-sized sheets of light chipboard that you can buy online.
- Sharp scissors for cutting cereal box cardboard.
- Clear plastic tape and masking tape Note: Don’t use disappearing gift wrap tape – it isn’t strong enough.
- A small amount of aluminum foil
- Glue gun
- Paper strips and paste or TiteBond III wood glue
- Yarn or twine (optional
- Acrylic paint and varnish
- Shoelaces or ribbon straps to hold the mask in place
