I used the Lion mask pattern to create a large puppet for our Youth Theater’s production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I enlarged the pattern and used the papermache clay to create the head. I also utilized the burlap “dust” method to create the fur and used a cardboard cement form tube to create the body.
Great lion, Donna. He has a great personality, and that photo is really dramatic – I wish I could have seen the play. I am curious, though – can you explain what the ‘burlap “dust” method’ is? I tried to search for it, but Google didn’t help.
One of the other lions featured on this blog, Leo, the artist chopped up burlap into a dust like consistency. Then you brush glue on and put the powered up burlap on. Brush off the excess after it dries and it leaves a fur like apperance. I then painted color on top to help seal in the burlap
Of course – I remember that post now. I should have done a search for it here, instead of google. It’s a great idea, and it worked perfectly for both of you. Thanks for reminding me. 🙂
