Arizona Elf Owl

Made by Margarethe Brummermann

These fist-sized owls live in cavities that the Gila Woodpecker makes in our Saguaro Cacti. The sculpting part is just about done. I started similar to Jonni’s ‘little Owl‘ but the cardboard mask for the face did not easily accommodate my reverse-painted glass eyes. So I removed it and instead sculpted the facial feathers from paper mache clay. So that may still shrink enough to make me do it over again. But I am sure that I will be able to build up enough volume.
