This was my very first time making and sculpting something with paper mache clay. I followed your glue-based recipe. It was really fun working with this material.
I’d been asked by my stepson to make him an Evil Nun doll for a You Tube animation he was creating. Her body is fabric (made from a Holly Hobby pattern!). I used scrunched up tin foil to shape the head. I realized afterwards that the eyes are too far up the head and should have been more centered – but live and learn!!
After I pulled out the foil, I cut out the eye sockets and crafted yellow lenses then placed an LED light in the head with a battery pack and switch on her back under her nun’s habit. I also made her a custom box that looks like a coffin, lined in red silk. For fun, she also has red silk knickers!
Great doll, Sandy. Those big yellow eyes must look really creepy when they’re lighted from inside. Did your step-son finish his video? Did he make it with stop-motion animation? That’s always looked like a lot of fun to me, but I’ve never tried it.
Thanks Jonni! A funny story about the doll. My stepson (who is in his late 30s) had a party and several of the guests had too much to drink so stayed over. One man slept in the living room, and in the middle of the night, woke up to see the Nun doll, eyes glowing from the fireplace mantel, and he was so unnerved by her that he had to get up and turn her to face the wall! He didn’t know where the off switch was! I love that story! I’m not sure if the video series is done yet, I should ask.
