Hi – just read your post of today and I have made numerous lampshades using your amazing clay recipe. Everyone loves them. I uses LED bulbs just to be on the safe side, but they come out super strong and really beautiful.
Papier mache clay lampshade
Can you fire your clay recipe to be able to get a very translucent and some what open weave look to items?
Hi Donna. Bindy might also respond, but since she’s using the paper mache clay recipe, there’s no way it can be fired. It would burn up in a kiln. I don’t have a clay recipe that can be made translucent, but you could try using paper strips and paste, using tissue paper instead of newspaper. I don’t know about safety issues, though – paper does burn.
Hi Bindy – that lampshade is stunning! I’m wondering how you started the process. Which of Jonni’s wonderful recipes did you use? Did you use plaster pieces or paper mache strips as a base? I’m very new to this (obviously) and would appreciate your guidance 🙂

Thanks for the lovely feedback! I am about to embark on a new lampshade using a mixture of your clay and a lightly felted wool. I have played with this mix with little LED tealight holders and you get a super strong but delicate form. Will post if it’s a success!!
